Responsibilities

  • Chief engineer for both projects – oversee design process and make final decisions on design elements, as well as advise and assist the rest of the team where needed
  • Designed new transmission system for Rivershark, now designing the transmission and propulsion systems for Cygnus

Motivation

I initially took interest in the team as an opportunity to further my education outside of lectures and to gain more practical experience working on real projects. I have worked previously on projects with FIRST Robotics in the US, and this team offered a similar opportunity to work in a student-driven environment, and to have more freedom to learn and work as a team. The water-based nature of the project also provides new and unique challenges, as well as the offer of becoming a licensed SCUBA diver and operating the submarine underwater. It was these new challenges and opportunities which drove me to join the submarine team, and the experience so far has absolutely delivered on these promises.
